Internet users are outraged by the photos of a young tourist in Budapest, writes Ripost.

The woman took a photo at the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial, which many found very distasteful. The clueless tourist stepped on one of the bronze shoes to get a better photo of the monument, which was presumably unfamiliar to them.

The bronze sculpture installation commemorates the Jews who were shot into the Danube because of their ethnicity between 1944 and 1945. Most people light candles or carry flowers to honor the victims, but many tourists do not know what the monument represents.

Several people on Reddit have criticized her behavior.

„They are posing there without a clue as to what (the memorial) is. It’s very scary.”

– wrote one outraged commenter. Others found it strange that the young people hadn’t even thought about why the shoes were there.

The location also contains information in different languages about the shoes being part of a Holocaust memorial.
