Katalin Novák also congratulated Israel on its 75th anniversary

In a Twitter message, President of Hungary Katalin Novák wished a happy birthday to the Jewish state, which was founded 75 years ago.

In her video message, the President of Hungary recalled that the visionary of the Jewish state, Theodor Herzl, was born in Budapest, so „we Hungarians were there at the birth of a dream.”

„The founders of the state knew that life is stronger than death, that building can overcome destruction and hard work can subdue the desert.”

– Katalin Novák said, adding that „75 years is a lifetime, but in that time the Israeli people have not given up on their dream.”

„We are proud of the important role that Hungarian Jews have played in these 75 years and of the fact that

Hungary is a place, alongside Israel, where Jewish communities can live in peace.”

In the written part of her Twitter message, addressed to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, she said:

I am delighted to send my warm congratulations on the 75th anniversary of #Israel‘s independence. 

She added:

Katalin Novák concluded her message with a greeting in Hebrew: יום העצמאות שמח, i.e., Happy Independence Day!
