The EMIH-Association of Hungarian Jewish Communities opens this year’s Synagogue Week with the traditional Sólet Festival.
On August 28, on the Buda Park Stage, in addition to the gastronomic festival featuring the famous Jewish-Hungarian stew known as „sólet,” special children’s programs also await all members of the family. That evening at 8 p.m., the Dohnányi Orchestra will perform a compilation of Jewish-related film scores.
During Synagogue Week, the renovated Vasvári Synagogue will be opened to the community, the exhibition of Ferenc Flamm will be opened in the Jewish House in Szentendre, and a special book launch will take place with the participation of Cardinal Péter Erdő and former MTA President E. Szilveszter Vizi.
The cultural foundation of EMIH, Firgun, will present excerpts from the diary of Sándor Márai’s wife Lola and a presentation by the young patrons of the Igazgyöngy Foundation, entitled “The People of Judah.” The series will conclude on September 7 in Debrecen, with the official opening of the Jewish House in Debrecen, inaugurated by Rabbi Samuel Faigen.
