Israeli Ambassador comments on the Ukrainian demonstration at the Danube Shoes

The full text of the statement sent to Neokohn can be found below translated into English:

„Israel has condemned Russian attacks on Ukraine on more than one occasion. Our hearts go out to the relatives of the victims.

However, to link the severe suffering of today’s innocent Ukrainians with the Holocaust of the Jews is completely unfounded.

The Holocaust was a unique and unprecedented crime, the aim of which was to wipe out the Jewish people from the face of the earth. Part of this crime was the murder of the remaining Jews of Budapest at the end of World War II.

The Holocaust is unique because of the warped ideas and ideologies that sought to exterminate an entire people/beliefs/race without exception.

Therefore, any comparison trivializes the Holocaust and also impacts the suffering of the innocent Ukrainian victims of the war.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the Ukrainian people,” said Yacov Hadas-Handelsman, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Hungary.
