Letters of appreciation and congratulations have been pouring in from Israel to the new leadership of the Hungarian Autonomous Orthodox Jewish Community, and in particular rabbi Oirechman Shmuel, the new Secretary General of the community.
From the Israeli government, Amichai Chikli, Minister of Diaspora Relations, was the first to congratulate the new secretary, and in recent days he has been joined by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, vice-Knesset Speaker Uriel Busso, Minister of Construction and Housing Yichak Goldknopf, Minister of Communications Galit Distel-Atbaryan, Minister of Jerusalem Meir Porush, May Golan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Michael Malchieli, Minister for Religious Services and Amichai Eliyahu, Minister for Jerusalem and Tradition.
As first reported by Neokohn, the Hungarian Autonomous Orthodox Jewish Community (MAOIH) elected new leaders last Wednesday, with Gábor Keszler as president and rabbi Oirechman Smuel as secretary. The congratulations just received clearly show the desire of the State of Israel to work closely with this historic community.
„As someone who has already done so much for the local Jewish community, I have no doubt that your election is an important step for one of the most historic and important communities of the Jewish people.”
– said Amir Ohana, Speaker of the Israeli Parliament, in his welcome letter.
„I am well aware of your work for the Jewish people in general, and for the Jewish community in Hungary in particular, and I wish you success for the benefit of the Jewish people.”

In his letter of greeting, Yichak Goldknopf, representative of the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party and Minister of Construction and Housing, praised the importance of the long-standing Jewish community in Hungary, noting that the election of rabbi Shmuel Oirechman will allow hungarian orthodoxy to „shine once again in its former glory”.
„His election is good news for all those who care about the fate of the Jewish community in Hungary.”

In a similar vein, Knesset Vice President Uriel Bosso, in his congratulatory remarks, stressed the importance of Rabbi Oirechman’s election as Secretary General:
„He has a great responsibility to continue the history of this important community.”
In his letter, Information Minister Galit Distel-Atbaryan pointed out that Rabbi Oirechman’s election „will bring honor and success” to the Jewish community in Hungary.
