Viktor Orbán received Israeli chief rabbi at the Carmelite Monastery

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau at the Carmelite Monastery, where he discussed support for Jewish communities, relations between Hungary and Israel, and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The meeting was also attended by Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director, and Shlomo Köves, Chief Rabbi of the Association of Hungarian Jewish Communities (EMIH).

David Lau thanked the Hungarian government for its support in strengthening Jewish communities in Hungary and around the world.

He highlighted Hungary’s assistance in providing shelter and care to Jews who have fled Ukraine.

Viktor Orbán and David Lau welcomed the close strategic alliance between the State of Israel and Hungary.

During the talks, they stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of peace in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
