For Budapest, for Hungary, for 1956, for Erika Szeles – these are the words on the rockets Ukrainian soldiers are posing with in front of Hungarian and Ukrainian flags in a recent photograph. Erika Szeles was a 15-year-old martyr of the 1956 Revolution who was shot in the neck by Soviet soldiers who crushed the revolution, rtl.hu reported.
The portal notes that the photo also features Sándor Fegyir, a teacher at the University of Uzhhorod who gave classes to his students from the front.
The photos were shared by Viktor Shchadei, who used to be active as a politician, ran for mayor of Uzhhorod, and is now fighting on the frontline with Fegyir. He was also the one who posted about Ukrainian soldiers speaking to each other in Hungarian, thus hiding their communication from the Russians.
In his comment to this post, Shchadei sent a message in Hungarian as well on the occasion of August 20:
„Congratulations to our Hungarian friends on the occasion of the celebration of the founding of the state (St. Stephen’s Day). Thousands of people in Hungary and Ukraine died for the freedom of their people, because of Russian aggression. We remember all those who perished at the hands of Russia. And we know from Hitler’s example that such dictators do not stop at one state.
That is why we are now defending the freedom of Ukraine and Europe. For our freedom and for yours!”
